Land Rover South Africa has developed an all-electric Defender. The vehicle was designed to minimise noise and environmental pollution for the safari drivers. The Lithium battery is developed with the UK-based Axeon. The position of the battery pack is in the engine bay where the standard 2.4 diesel engine formerly was situated. A more common place should be under the car, but by putting the battery pack in the engine bay the Land Rover maintains it’s ground clearance and wading height.

Besides the reduction of 295 g/km carbon dioxide emission the car has another great advantage: As the engine produces  no sound, the car is able to get close to the animals of the game park.
